Clarkson Game Recap

POTSDAM, N.Y.—Harvard men’s hockey earned a badly needed 2 points in the ECAC standings tonight after a chippy game against Clarkson at Cheel Arena ended in the Crimson’s favor, 3-2. Coach Ted Donato made some line changes that turned out to be very successful for the Crimson, including moving sophomore Tyler Moy back to center on the third line.
After falling short last night to St. Lawrence, Harvard came out early to put themselves on the board first versus the Golden Knights with a Moy feed to Seb Lloyd.
Though Clarkson answered back with a goal of their own to end the first period, first-line standout Jimmy Vesey added to the Crimson’s total in the second with an unassisted goal, beating goaltender Steve Perry one-on-one.
With emotions running high, the second period ended with a brawl in the Clarkson crease that resulting in matching 10-minute misconducts for Clay Anderson and Nic Pierog.
The game ended with a long Clarkson possession, pulling Perry and playing 6-on-5 in the hopes of tying the game, but the Crimson were up to the task on the defensive end. Steve Michalek played another outstanding game, backstopping Harvard and saving 33 shots on the night.
Of note was the loss of Jake Horton in the first period, as the freshman forward left the ice for the locker room in the first and Donato described him as “banged up” after the game. The Crimson have been plagued by injuries this season, and will need a full roster when they play against #10 Boston College in the rescheduled Beanpot consolation round this Monday at 4:30 p.m. on WHRB.
